Dr. Lindsey Hanson completed a Bachelor’s degree in veterinary science from UNL in 2009 and a DVM from Iowa State in 2013. She has practiced in Lincoln since 2013, joining South Ridge in 2016. She took ownership of the clinic in September of 2018.
Dr. Hanson has a passion for learning and has special interests in internal medicine, dermatology, and surgery. Originally from Kearney, Dr. Hanson married her high school sweetheart, Brent. Together they have three daughters, Evelyn, Scarlett, and Claire, and a pug, Beans.
Dr. Lyndee Whalen grew up in Kearney, NE, where her initial love for veterinary medicine began on her grandparents farm at a young age. She received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2015 and went on to graduate with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 2019. After graduation, Dr. Whalen and her husband, Mitch, moved back to Lincoln where she began working as a companion animal practitioner with a focus in emergency medicine. She joined the South Ridge team in June of 2021.
Dr. Whalen enjoys providing care for all pets’ life stages and needs but has a special interest in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. In her free time when Dr. Whalen is not spending time with her husband and their three dogs, she enjoys gardening, cooking, working out, and watching true crime documentaries.
Dr. Samantha Aerts grew up on a farm in Stratton, NE. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in Education and Human Sciences from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 2015. She went back to school in 2020 and graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2024 from Iowa State University. After graduation, she returned to Lincoln to practice companion animal medicine and started her career at South Ridge Animal Clinic.
Dr. Sam lives with her husband, Garrett, and their two dogs, Ghost and Ash. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, playing sand volleyball, golfing, and reading.
Katie is from Lincoln, NE. She received her Veterinary Technician degree from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Colorado in 2012. Prior to that, she worked in marine mammal care at SeaWorld for five years. She has a dog, Stryker, and a cat, Eli. She loves to cook and color, and she keeps track of every species in which she has placed an IV catheter, a list which includes exotic animals such as a capuchin monkey, opossum, walrus, and ferret.
Rachel is from Rapid City, SD. She received her Veterinary Technician degree from Northeast Community College in Norfolk, NE, in 2019. Prior to that, she received degrees in photography and graphic design before pursuing her passion of veterinary medicine. Rachel and her husband, Trew, have a boxer named Kilo. Rachel loves DIY projects, which include anything from woodworking to reupholstering furniture, and reading murder mystery novels.
Jenna is from Hastings, NE. She graduated from the University of Nebraska NCTA with a Veterinary Technology degree in 2020 and has been with South Ridge since January 2023. She loves to go camping with her family, and she has a senior rescued beagle named Gracie Bean who accompanies her to work everyday.
Preethy is from Lincoln, NE. She graduated from Iowa Western Community College with a Veterinary Technology degree in 2017 and has been a member of the South Ridge team since 2021. She has two dogs, Remi and Norman. In her free time, she loves to paint (especially flowers).
Brad is from Guide Rock, NE, and has been a Veterinary Technician for over 20 years. He has been with the South Ridge team since 2013. He has a cat named Starvin Marvin and several horses. Brad loves to play practical jokes on everyone at the clinic!
Burgandie graduated from UNL with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. She joined the South Ridge team in August 2022 and is currently enrolled in the Penn Foster Veterinary Technician program. She assisted with a spay/neuter program in Mawali, Africa. She has three cats named Elliott, Delores Jane, and Dharma Grey. Burgandie loves pit bulls, and her hobbies include hiking, running, biking, drawing, painting, and traveling.
Kristie is from Nebraska. She previously studied cosmetology and then criminal justice before discovering her love for animals and finding a career in veterinary medicine. She has a daughter and two dogs. Interestingly, Kristie was born without an esophagus and loves reading/watching real biographies about serial killers.
Torrie grew up in California and Montana and, in total, has lived in six states. She has been in Nebraska since 2012 because of military life. She began her veterinary career as a kennel staff worker around 2013 and then started grooming in 2014. She and her husband, Danny, have a son and daughter along with one dog and two cats. She originally went to school to study Aerospace Engineering and is the oldest of nine children.
